Spring 2013 RTW
An audience chock full of some of the hottest celebrities including actress/mommy Jessica Alba, the glamorous actress Olivia Wilde, Olympic Swimmer Ryan Lochte just to name a few, when Ralph Lauren set the runway for an adventure to Spain. He reminded us of the country’s culture and heritage that stands forever offering up a vast richness in colors, textures and styles reminiscent of an old Hollywood movie, or photos from the archives of old world travels. His creations exploded onto the runway with illusions of flamenco dancers along with elements of Spain the likes of horse riding clothes one would see on the landscapes of Andalusia.
As the guitar music filled the hall it was with great ease that Lauren presented his usual natural elegance and ever present sensuality but there was also that sense of adventure and even fun when these romantic figures appeared wearing flat top Spanish hats dramatically tilted over the brow.
Stand outs were a black sable dress embellished with a white lace collar and simple strapless dresses that billowed like flags in the wind. There were flamboyantly colorful fringed shawls draped over suits, long skirts and turned into actual dresses. Take that all away you still had impeccably tailored suits and dresses that are very real, tangible and true testaments of the magnificence of this label. There were also beaded georgette tops worn with tulle embroidered skirts which also billowed with great volume. Mr Lauren did not keep it all in Spain because he of course referenced the American South West with boldly colorful striped serapes of turquoise and scarlet worn with black. Connecting both worlds he presented sizable black leather pannier-style bags which opened the show. Studded and weathered they added a luxurious coolness which will be sure to seen both here and abroad.
