On June 8, 2012, Animal lovers converged in a multi-million dollar penthouse owned by Ron Pobuda with what must be one of the most breath-taking views overlooking Central Park. Pobuda a philanthropist opened his home to host, charity organization, Celebrity Catwalk’s latest fundraiser Penthouse Paws. The swank soiree was to raise much needed funds for the homeless animals of New York City.

Celebrity Catwalk is the brainchild of Jennifer Bartok and was founded in the summer of 2000. Proceeds from Celebrity Catwalk events go directly to non-profit organizations who work tirelessly to put a dent into staggering statistics. Celebrities lend their time & talent to host their benefits.

During our conversation with Bertok, she expressed “Our mission with our fundraisers is always three fold: We strive to raise money so we can continue to support rescue groups that don’t have budgets of their own and are made up of independent rescuers. We also include adoptable dogs/cats in some of our recent events like Mardi Paws & Casino Royale in an attempt to help them find homes”. Jennifer concluded saying, “we want to continually remind people that 140 cats and dogs are killed here in New York City (all of the boroughs) due to the lack of space in our city’s shelters”.

Also at attendance was Karen Biehl, from the reality TV show Doggie Moms on the NYC Media network. The proud owner of Chihuahua Eli said “Animals give so much to humans, more than many of us even realize, and it is important to give back to them and help all dogs and cats find homes so they can have the love they deserve. These events are great because they raise money for homeless animals, while also raising awareness about the issues” moreover fellow cast member Grace Forster, a loving owner to 2 Yorkies Portia and Rosie concurred with Biehl’s statement by saying “The cause is important to me because the human/animal bond is very near and dear to my heart. I strongly support animal rescue organizations that are committed to the humane treatment of homeless animals and to finding loving homes for permanent adoption”.

Guest were treated with live music from two artists that set the tone for the magical evening. Guitarist Jason Sagebiel, a Texas native and country-boy at heart who now resides in Long Island City, NY played music for nearly two hours. The Composer, Conductor and Teacher played his original music to the crowd’s content.

The Herreras

The Herreras

Also performing live for nearly 2 hours were The Herreras, Esteban and Sebastian. The flamenco guitarists play a variety of World Fusion tunes influenced by the styles of the great guitarists of our time. The origin of the duo began in 2009 when Esteban and Sebastian, who are not related and yet are natives of Ecuador, met in the United States after a combined 15 years of playing separately.

One of the evening’s high lights were the vast items up for bid via silent auction. Luxury items from Ivanka Trump, Zac Posen, Navoh, London Jewelers and pumps by Beth Shak were hot ticket items. Accessories for your pet by Fabuleash, Solvit, Strollers, Petrageous and a basket courtesy of Bocker The Labradoodle and many more were also up for bid. A bidding war over a few items caused stand offs between a few attendees, but since funds brought in from these auctions help the cause, a little competitiveness seems okay.
