American Idol alum Adam Lambert has a lot to celebrate this week. The recently turned 30 year-old released his second major label studio set “Trespassing” last week on RCA Records.

Today, according to Billboard magazine news broke out that the Lambert’s newest release sold nearly 80 thousand copies in its first week and will debut at No. 1 on the Billboard’s Top 200 Album chart. This is Lambert’s first album to reach the penthouse on that chart.

American singer-songwriter Lambert born Adam Mitchel Lambert in 1982 and raised in San Diego has been on an extensive media tour to promote “Trespassing” on major network shows like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, fifth annual NewNowNext Awards, Good Morning America, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and a return to American Idol in the last several weeks.

Lambert is the seventh American Idol finalist to reach No. 1, following Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry (of Daughtry) and last year’s winner Scotty McCreery.

“Trespassing” is the follow-up to his debut album on a major label “For Your Entertainment” in winter of 2009. It peaked at No. 3 and has gone platinum in the United States. Three hits singles were released from the album, the massive international hit “Whataya Want From Me” co-written by P!nk, “If I Had You” and the title track.

Unfortunately, not everything is cause for celebration. The lead single off of “Trespassing” the electro-pop ballad “Better Than I Know Myself” failed to make an impression on the Pop charts and fizzled at No. 76. Second single and fan favorite “Never Close Our Eyes” has yet to catch fire at radio. The Dr. Luke produced track seems like a no-brainer and was co-written by Pop star Bruno Mars. Time will tell if the album has legs and produce hits for the Pop market.

Another stand-out song from the album is the title track. It is produced and written by Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D. The album has received positive reviews across the board from major publications and is a solid release from the multi-talented Lambert.
