On May 11th, 2012 in the Gramercy Park section of Manhattan, the non-profit Animal Care and Control of NYC held their fifth annual Animal Care Spring Fling at the prestigious National Arts Club.

Three consecutive days of rain came to an end with clear warm weather that evening. New Yorkers were ready to dress to the nines to support homeless animals in need. As guests arrived to the entrance of The National Arts Club, they were greeted by volunteers with adorable dogs up for adoption.

As they arrived, guests entered the elegant gallery where not only did they have beautiful art adorning the walls, they also had live music by songstress Tamar Korn and with Jeremy Siskind on piano.

Scrumptious food was provided by eatery Artisanal, a fromagerie, bistro and wine bar located near by on Park Avenue. Sharon Bridbord, the director of special events at Artisanal had one of their chefs on hand to make their “Drunken” Raclette, the Annual Grilled Cheese Winner of 2012 for the guests. Side note, this sandwich is so delicious. It’s an indulgence all must try at least once but be warned you’ll want more.

In between trips to the open bar and wait staff serving delicious hors d’oeuvres, there were over 50 items up for grabs via silent auction. Some of the most hotly contested items included an iPad 3, watches from Armani Exchange, jewelry by Badgley Mischka, paintings, Broadway tickets and much more.

As the evening progressed there were a few speeches by the hard working team of Animal Care and Control of NYC. Board of Directors member Dr. Jay Kuhlman discussed the state of animal control and what abandoned pets go through. Executive Director Julie Bank mentioned the future plans and recognized follow members Douglas Boles, Risa Weinstock, and Richard Gentles and ‘Thanked” attendees for their support. Event co-chairs Kevin de l’Aigle and David Zyla addressed the crowd and read a portion of an email by Susan Lucci who was unable to attend due to illness.

Animal Care and Control promotes the protection, health and welfare of pets in New York City. Their goals are to decrease the number of animals abandoned, decrease euthanasia, and to find good homes for all healthy and treatable homeless or abandoned pets.

Notable attendees included Julie Hayek (Miss USA 1983), Miranda Reinfeldt (VH1’s My Antonio), David Zyla (Author), Maria Milito (Radio Host), Grace Forster and Karen Biehl (TV’s Doggie Moms), Anthony Rubio (Designer), Charlotte Reed (Pet Expert) among many others.
